Blytheville sits in the Mississippi Alluvial Plain, the flat farm country the river built. The land runs about 250 feet above sea level, and the Mississippi River is roughly 8 miles east. Water leaves this ground through drainage ditches, not down a hill. That is why a closed in ditch bank shows up so fast on a property here.
The dirt is not all the same. Old sloughs and backswamps hold heavy Sharkey clay, which is sticky and slow to drain. The natural ridges the river left behind carry sandier loam that dries out quicker. A machine can work the sand ridges most of the year, and the clay wants a dry stretch.
Mulching in place fits this ground well. The drum mulcher grinds brush and small trees where they stand and leaves a mulch layer behind. That layer holds bare Delta soil down until grass or a crop comes back. What has to leave the property rides out on the dump trailer.
Mississippi County is steel country now. The mills around Blytheville and down at Osceola are the big employers here. The county even runs a Work Here, Live Here program to help workers buy a house. A new house needs the lot cleared and rough graded first.

The small places around town are farm country. Number Nine is out AR-150 east of Blytheville, and Armorel sits east toward the Mississippi River. Dell is west on AR-18, Burdette is south on AR-148, and Barfield and Hickman are out by the river. Land back off the highway often needs a road in first, which is gravel driveway work.
Getting here from Monette is simple. AR-18 runs straight east through Leachville, Manila and Dell into Blytheville, and meets I-55 at exit 67. We come over from Monette for work in town and out in the county.
Burning is the first question people ask. Arkansas counties post burn bans through the state Forestry Division, so check the list before anybody lights a pile. We mulch brush and small trees in place. What has to leave the property rides out on the dump trailer.
Inside the city, code enforcement handles overgrown property. The city code office looks at unsightly and unsanitary conditions on lots. Out in the county, the judge's office at the courthouse on West Walnut runs the county roads. If a driveway ties onto a state highway instead, that is ARDOT.
Storms are part of owning land out here. An EF4 tornado tracked through Monette and Leachville on December 10, 2021. The weather service rated an EF3 near Lake City on April 2, 2025. Downed trees, limbs and brush piles left behind are storm cleanup work.
