Land Clearing, Mulching and Dirt Work for Blytheville Property Owners

Flat Delta ground around Blytheville grows over fast. A field corner or a vacant lot in town gets away in a few seasons. What used to get mowed turns into briars, vines and volunteer trees. Willow and cottonwood take the low wet spots, and cedar and privet hold the dry fence rows.

Craig Land Management is based in Monette and handles land clearing in Blytheville and around Mississippi County. We come over for clearing overgrown land and forestry mulching, plus bush hogging, dirt work and gravel driveways. Call (870) 351-5107. We will come look at the property and put a free estimate in writing.

What Delta ground around Blytheville is like

Blytheville sits in the Mississippi Alluvial Plain, the flat farm country the river built. The land runs about 250 feet above sea level, and the Mississippi River is roughly 8 miles east. Water leaves this ground through drainage ditches, not down a hill. That is why a closed in ditch bank shows up so fast on a property here.

The dirt is not all the same. Old sloughs and backswamps hold heavy Sharkey clay, which is sticky and slow to drain. The natural ridges the river left behind carry sandier loam that dries out quicker. A machine can work the sand ridges most of the year, and the clay wants a dry stretch.

Mulching in place fits this ground well. The drum mulcher grinds brush and small trees where they stand and leaves a mulch layer behind. That layer holds bare Delta soil down until grass or a crop comes back. What has to leave the property rides out on the dump trailer.

Who needs land clearing in Blytheville?

Mississippi County is steel country now. The mills around Blytheville and down at Osceola are the big employers here. The county even runs a Work Here, Live Here program to help workers buy a house. A new house needs the lot cleared and rough graded first.

Farms and rural landowners call for other reasons. Cedar and sapling brush creeps out of a fence row and eats a turn row or a pasture edge. Ditch banks close in until a truck cannot get down them. Open field and pasture work is usually bush hogging, and thick woody growth wants the mulcher.

Then there are the people who just bought ground. Somebody buys a wooded few acres outside town and cannot get back through it. A hunting tract needs trails and shooting lanes cut. We clear the brush, mulch what we can and haul the rest off on the dump trailer.

The roads and communities around Blytheville

Blytheville is the Chickasawba District seat of Mississippi County. It is also the easternmost incorporated town in Arkansas. Gosnell sits right on its west side, and Yarbro is about 3 miles north on US-61.

The small places around town are farm country. Number Nine is out AR-150 east of Blytheville, and Armorel sits east toward the Mississippi River. Dell is west on AR-18, Burdette is south on AR-148, and Barfield and Hickman are out by the river. Land back off the highway often needs a road in first, which is gravel driveway work.

Getting here from Monette is simple. AR-18 runs straight east through Leachville, Manila and Dell into Blytheville, and meets I-55 at exit 67. We come over from Monette for work in town and out in the county.

What should you check before clearing land in Mississippi County?

Burning is the first question people ask. Arkansas counties post burn bans through the state Forestry Division, so check the list before anybody lights a pile. We mulch brush and small trees in place. What has to leave the property rides out on the dump trailer.

Inside the city, code enforcement handles overgrown property. The city code office looks at unsightly and unsanitary conditions on lots. Out in the county, the judge's office at the courthouse on West Walnut runs the county roads. If a driveway ties onto a state highway instead, that is ARDOT.

Storms are part of owning land out here. An EF4 tornado tracked through Monette and Leachville on December 10, 2021. The weather service rated an EF3 near Lake City on April 2, 2025. Downed trees, limbs and brush piles left behind are storm cleanup work.

Communities and areas we serve around Blytheville: Gosnell, Yarbro, Armorel, Dell, Burdette, Number Nine, Barfield, Hickman, Chickasawba Mound, Walker Park, West Main Street Historic District, Arkansas Aeroplex (the former Eaker Air Force Base).

Blytheville ZIP codes served: 72315, 72316, 72319.

Blytheville FAQ

Questions From Blytheville Property Owners

A few of the questions we hear most around Blytheville. If yours is not here, call and ask.

Call (870) 351-5107

Do you come to Blytheville from Monette?
Yes. Blytheville is a little over 25 miles east of Monette on AR-18, through Leachville and Manila. We work about 50 miles around Jonesboro, and Mississippi County is inside that. Call (870) 351-5107 and we will set a time to come look.
What does land clearing cost in Blytheville?
It depends on the property. Thick brush takes longer than light brush, and bigger trees take longer than saplings. Acreage, how wet the ground is, and whether debris has to be hauled off all matter too. We look at the property first and put a free estimate in writing.
Can you mulch on wet Delta clay?
Heavy clay ground around Blytheville stays soft for a while after a rain. A skid steer on tracks spreads its weight out better than wheels do. Even so, we would rather wait for a dry stretch than tear up your ground. We will tell you how the ground looks when we come out.
Do you grind stumps after you clear a lot?
We do not offer stump grinding. The drum mulcher cuts brush and small trees down to the ground and grinds the tops into mulch. The stumps and roots stay in the dirt. If you want stumps out, a stump grinding company or an excavation contractor handles that.
Can you clear a lot for a new house around Blytheville or Gosnell?
That is normal work for us. We clear the brush and small trees, rough grade the ground with the skid steer and haul debris off. The builder's excavator digs the foundation. Get utility locates through Arkansas 811 before anybody digs, and have the survey stakes set.
